Our aim: The Physical Education Curriculum at Saint Augustine’s is designed to develop every pupil, encouraging all students to fulfill their potential. Lessons are challenging and exciting, taught by expert staff and offer an opportunity to experience a broad range of activities.
Our extra-curricular sports provision is second to none. We are regularly able to field teams in the major games such as rugby, football, basketball and netball. We are amongst the top schools in the area in fixtures, as well as county and regional tournaments. We also offer a comprehensive recreational programme including activities such as Table Tennis, Badminton and many more.
Students are able to opt to take GCSE PE (OCR) or BTEC Level 2 Award in Sport from year 9 (Pearson).
Students are able to opt to take A Level PE (OCR) or BTEC Level 3 Sport from year 12.
Core Physical Education (Years 9-13)
Year 9 students receive 3 lessons per fortnight (3 x 75 minutes).
Year 10 students receive 1 lesson per week (2 x 75 minutes).
Year 11 students receive 1 lesson per fortnight (1 x 75 minutes).
Year 12 and 13 students receive 2 compulsory lessons per fortnight (2 x 75 minutes), unless they undertake a work experience placement or voluntary work instead.
The National Curriculum for Physical Education at Saint Augustine’s aims to ensure that all pupils:
develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
are physically active for sustained periods of time
engage in competitive sports and activities
lead healthy, active lives
