Core Religious Studies
Core RE provides our students with the opportunity to reflect on their world views, through evaluation of current social and global issues. As a Catholic School for all we look to develop the whole-person, which continues into our Sixth Form. The purpose of this course is to develop skills in the following areas: communication, team-work, debating, evaluation and analysis and extended writing. Whilst developing fundamental skills needed to be successful at A-Level, students are also encouraged to evaluate their own morality and ethics by debating how Jesus and the Gospels would tackle issues such as environmentalism and social justice in today's world.
All students must also opt in to our ‘Giving Back’ programme that offers a range of different volunteer opportunities they can get involved in, proving their service and sacrifice to both the community and school.
General RE is an invaluable course which explores moral and ethical values in society; students are credited 16 UCAS points for successful completion. General RE also allow the opportunity for students to complete an Extended Project Qualification on a philosophical, theological or moral area of study; this qualification can earn them up to half an A Level and potentially result in reduced offers from universities.
