Canonisation of John Henry Newman: Blessed John Henry Newman was one of the country’s most prominent converts to Catholicism in the 19th century. He was renowned as a brilliant thinker and was made a cardinal by Pope Leo XIII. He died in Birmingham in 1890, after founding the Birmingham Oratory. The Vatican has announced that he will be canonised on 13th October and we will be celebrating him this week in our Collective Worships.
