Homework
We firmly believe that parental support is paramount in helping every child realise their full potential. For that reason we ask that parents sign planners every week and read through students books with them. Students should get into the habit of spending 5 minutes checking through the work of the day before beginning homework. This is essential if they are to get maximum benefit from lessons during the day
Year 9
Students should be spending one to one and a half hours per night on homework. If they are spending more than this then it is appropriate to put a note in their books. In year 9 we structure the students timetable so that they don’t end up with too much in one go. Each student should have their own homework timetables. More are available from the head of year
Year 10 and 11
Students should be spending one and a half to two hours per night completing homework. There is no rigid homework timetable set. Individual teachers will indicate to students when they are likely to set homework and receive it back in again. Whenever possible this should allow the students three to four days to complete it
How parents can help their child complete/learn work
Students often just need a ‘coach’ to help them find their way. You may find the following questions useful:
“So what are you supposed to know”
“What would you like me to test you on?”
“What would be the best way to find that out?”
“So what is your biggest priority?”
And finally
If you are worried about your child’s progress please do not hesitate to contact the appropriate Head of Year
